Replacing or adding extra battery...

Squirrel 04-18-2007, 6:49 AM
I installed a 4000lb winch and when i tried to pull out another rhino it stalled out like it ran out of power. Some people told me that i needed a bigger battery. Can i put a car battery in there (EX. Optima) or will the stator not put out enough to charge it?

I have an Optima in mine. I got my battery box at Extreme Metal Products.

I have had a 3000 venom and now have the 4500lb venom. I have had no problems with operation and used it many times. The downfall to these winches are the contactors, and much like a battery if they start to corrode then the draw from the battery will increase. Keep all the wiring and the winch contacts sealed from water, use silicone on your finger and lightly apply over wire ends and the contact points. A stock battery may not like pulling constantly, keep the engine idleing and go in 5-10 foot segments giving a small few second break in between.
