fellas,i'm getting ready to purchase and install a grizzly sheave.i've been reading up on types available and they all say that they do increase top speed.not only top speed is what i want but i would also really like to raise the low gear that it seems to have in just 2high. i have been told that the grizzly sheave will do both for me.any information would help.and if those of you that have done this mod with the grizzly sheave.what parts and/or part number would i need ? thanks guys...... i have an 06' rhino 660 by the way .thanks again.

The grizzly sheave won't appreciably improve low speed performance. It will change the 35-55 mph performance profile considerably. Obviously, you wouldn't get to 55 without it in the first place. Other than that, engine rpms in the 35-45 mph range are a good bit lower and it makes the whole Rhino cruise experience much more friendly. It's far from lethergic though as it will come right off of a nice cruise and wide right on up to all it has with little effort. Part number is 5KM-17620-00. It is the primary sliding sheave for a Grizzly. For my riding, it was a must do modification. I have been very satisfied and have been running it since my Rhino was about 1 month old. Been almost 2 years now with no problem. ww

I have been reading alot about Mudbuster cams.
They are supposed to put some grunt in the low end. Not sure about top end performance with this cam.
Wonder what would come of doing both.

I have the Grizzly Sheave. Been about a year now. No problems. I have a friend that has the KMS and Duners kit and is real happy with it.

I did the clutch sheave but not the additional kit (rollers) Is that the key to more power in the dunes?

HUNTERWORKS.COM has a machined sheave also. You can buy it outright, no exchange like most companies. You can also print a copy of installation instructions from their web site.

Most people also recommend installing a new belt with the new sheave, stick with OEM belt.

ok my 07 will cruise at 51mph with just a cdi and a power tip.
will the sheeve take away from low gear power for pulling the steep hill climbs?
I live in N. IDAHO and thats about all we have so hill climbing it is, and very intence.

rileym.I've been running the grizzly sheave for about a year and very pleased with it.Like the other's said it probably won't give you any low to mid range but will definely give you more topend speed.here's a link with part # and install instruction's

I just installed the grizzly sheave last weekend, man what a difference. This is a must do mod if you do any road riding at all. No more high rpms for this ol' boy. Cruising at 35 to 40 is really a pleasure now, kinda reminds me of my grizzly. I guess it's for safety but why they just don't run this sheave in the first place is beyond me.

The Grizzly sheave won't top out at much as the KMS.or the other machined out sheaves.Just maybe 3 or 4 MPH slower.Some people have experienced problem's with the machined sheaves breaking the thin piece of metal between the roller weight slot's.I installed my Grizzly before all the other sheaves were available and have heard it's more reliable.

Hello! just joined the forum today.....nice to meet ya'll! After reading the posts here I ordered a grizzly sheave today. I have an '07 660. The only engine mod is a Black Rhino CDI. I am planning to do a stop watch compairison before and after...I'll post after the fact. My local Yamaha dealer says to NOT to use a aftermarket intake filter because it will screw up the rings...Any comments?

I have a 04 Rhino 660 that I installed a Grizzly sheave in it yesterday and can't tell that I helped anything! I have a tach on it and the RPM's and speed are the same (39 mph and the over rev kicks in) There might be a little less RPM's at around th 30 MPH mark. Would not spend the $175 and 2 hours labor if I had it to do over again. Ordered a CDI box today. Hope it does what they say and not like the sheave. For what it is worth..........Ole Man

Today I installed a Pro Con CDI box and my speed went up. The Rhino will get 45 mph fast and easy. It will top out at 51 mph but takes a while and is running @ 8000 RPM. I can cruze @ 35 MPH with no problems. Engine is stock expect for the Grizzly Sheave and the CDI box. I can handle this. MY cost for this was $275 + my Labor. (New sheave and used box)

There are three main things that limit top speed on a Rhino; the CDI, the CDI, and the gearing.

First to limit top speed is the CDI's top speed limit of 39 mph. Your Rhino wont go over 39 mph with the stock CDI, irregardless of what RPM the engine is turning.

Second is the rev limit of 6800 RPM that is programed into the stock CDI. Your Rhino wont go past 6800 RPM with the stock CDI, irregardless of overall speed.

Third is the gearing limit of the transmission and differential gears. Stock differential gearing is 3.64:1, and I know of no one that makes a different gear set for the Rhino. Top speed is limited to about 49 to 52 mph with the stock sheave. So as you can see, you would need to replace the stock CDI to see an increase in top speed, long before ever reaching the limit of the stock sheave.

There are a number of different sheaves available for the Rhino. The KMS sheave generally makes the most top end speed, but can actually hurt low end performance if you don't also change the spring and roller weights. Hunter Works sheave is machined to improve low end a small amount, and also improve top end speed, but by a little less than KMS. I have a Trinity sheave and roller weights, and it is supposedly tuned for maximum acceleration, more than it is for top speed. No idea how the Grizzly sheave stacks up against the aftermarket sheaves.
