would there be any benefit to putting the same size wheels/tires on front as are found on back?  would this help or hurt?  looks like more footprint.

I can only speak for my situation but I run stock tires and wheels in the off season and stock rims with stock size Goodyear Mud-Runners during hunting season. I am able to go through anything that my Grizzly would go through with the same setup and then some. You may be in the desert where a larger footprint may help. For my application, the stock size front tires allow me to get in and out of ruts more easily. To address your question directly, I see little reason why you couldn't run rear tire size on front rims. ww
