Maxxis Bighorns IMO The Best!

admin 04-08-2007, 11:17 AM
After yesterdays 175 mile run through the Barry Goldwater range, I now have 2600 miles on my Bighorns! The Best off road tire for the Rhino made! I have beat the Heck out of mine and they are still good. Anyone else??

I agree. Big Horns have done well in snow, mud, rock and sand (and some pavement)for me. They are wearing great too. I think they are the best all around tire, period.

Bill, do you know anyone running 26x12x12 Bighorns on the front? I am considering to get a little more floatation/traction on the front.

You know I was just discussing big tires on the front with Jim at FMS. I think that when it looks cool to have the big tires they are alot harder to steer especaially on pavement. I would stick with smaller ones up front. That is me. I have drove them both ways and prefer the smaller. To answer your question, I know that some people run them but don't know if there is more floatation/traction on the front.

The last time I was at Jerico I aired down my stock tires to 12lbs from 35lbs (which is what they were at from the dealer) and I got a lot better flotation in the sand. I also took my rhino up to the mountains in South Eastern Idaho two weeks ago with the 12lbs of air in them and they did just fine too.

Thanks Bill - I will stick with the 9" on front and play with the preasure when needed.

Justin, as I understand it the 35/lbs is max preasure when mounting the tire. Running preasure much lower, 8-16/lbs (max). I think your dealer forgot to release some preasure after mounting. I have heard some people run 3-4 lbs in the sand.

Do any of you guys know how many miles that you have on your tires? I will have about 3200 on mine before the new ones arrive. Is that a record??

I would say you have the record! (but I have little experience) Mine are just getting broken in -250! I will likely spend more time in the rock and on trails than in the sand so I expect them to wear. I have noticed that pavement causes a lot of wear. Do you spend most of your time in the sand? I would be interested in a close up photo of the tread you have left - you were still throwing some sand in the video :)

That is a good idea. I will post some pictures when I take them off. I would have to say that mine have seen more rock than anything.

Okay, so I know I'm getting Big Horns, a large majority of people I ride with use them with excellent results. My question is, I want to keep my stock SE rims and just get the tires, so what tire size should I order if I want to go just one size bigger than the stock tires for front and back?  And will they fit on the stock SE rims?

Thanks for any input!

I went with the ITP terracross and have been pleased with their "hook". I was looking at the bighorns and found them to be much simular in tread wear and grip. Shop around, I have a link in Ohio that will sell the ITP terracross 26" set with ss112 wheels for under 700 shipped to your door.
